While getting enough sleep can make any day a good one, the real enjoyment came when I stepped outside. It was sunny, beautiful, and warm! Well, relatively. Only in the heart of winter can 45 really be considered warm. But a simple sweatshirt and hat were sufficient, vastly contrasting the last few months (which pretty much felt like forever) of jackets and gloves and still being chilled to the bone.
And the best part? As I stepped out the door, I was facing the finish line of the City of Lakes Lopet. Who knew?!? There were lots of people everywhere. Most of them were spectators (which I quickly joined), but there were also several race participants - lots of kids, some adults, even skiers being pulled by dogs! I made a quick trip back inside, located the as-yet-untouched move-in boxes (our lease started Aug. 1st... I'm a little slow) and pulled out the camera. I'm convinced that no photograph will ever be able to fully capture the emotions and excitement of its subject, even when taken by a professional photographer. And given that I'm about as far from a professional as they come, I'll simply include a few random pics and you'll just have to take my word for it that it was the kind of excitement that is guaranteed to brighten your day.
Snow Sculpture Penguins
Lola the puppy
Lola was definitely my favorite. Her owners were very nice, and Lola loved to be pet! I guess she's a little too young still to compete, but it looked like she was having a good time anyway. Apparently she's pretty photogenic!!
Here are a few other pics if you're interested!
